n8n + Blotato TikTok Carousel Workflow vs SlideBase: Cost and Upkeep

What an n8n + Blotato + APITemplate carousel pipeline really costs and needs to maintain, compared with SlideBase for one app posting daily.

An n8n plus Blotato workflow can generate and publish TikTok carousels on autopilot, but the published templates need self-hosted n8n, four or five paid services and someone to fix them when an API changes. For an app developer the stack typically lands at $60 or more a month before AI usage, plus setup time. SlideBase does the same job from your App Store, Google Play or website link for $29 a month on Starter, with nothing to host. The DIY route is still the right call if you want total control, post to many networks, or already run n8n for other work.

All third-party prices below were checked on each vendor’s pricing page in November 2026. We build SlideBase, so we have an interest here; the numbers are there so you can check our maths.

What a typical n8n TikTok carousel workflow looks like

The clearest public example is n8n’s own template gallery entry #14064, “Create and publish AI carousel posts from Telegram to Instagram, Facebook and TikTok with OpenAI, APITemplate.io and Blotato”. It is well built and representative of what people sell on Gumroad. Here is what it needs:

PieceWhat it doesWhat you set up
Telegram botYou send an idea or voice note to trigger a postBot token from BotFather
OpenAITranscribes voice (Whisper) and an AI Agent drafts five quotes plus captionAPI key, pay per use
Google SheetsStores each run’s quotes and captionOAuth credentials and a sheet with set columns
APITemplate.ioRenders each quote into a styled slide imageAccount and a carousel template you design
BlotatoPublishes to Instagram, Facebook and TikTokAccount, connected profiles, API credential
n8nRuns it allSelf-hosted, because the Blotato community node only runs on self-hosted n8n

The template uses at least 15 node types. Each slide is a quote on a template: fine for motivational accounts, less obviously right for an app, where the last slide should show your actual app and the first should speak to a specific user’s problem.

The monthly bill, piece by piece

ServiceLowest paid plan (Nov 2026)Notes
n8n CloudStarter €20/mo billed yearly, 2,500 executionsBut this template needs self-hosting, so Cloud alone will not run it; the Community Edition is on GitHub
Server for self-hosted n8nDepends on your hostA small VPS is enough; you also own updates and backups
BlotatoStarter $29/mo, 1,250 AI credits, 20 social accounts7-day trial, card required; API and MCP excluded during trial
APITemplate.ioFree: 50 images or PDFs/mo. Starter: $29 or $35/mo (the page does not label which is annual), 1,500 rendersA 5-slide carousel a day is about 150 renders a month, so free will not cover it
OpenAI APIPay per useSmall per post, but not zero; varies by model
Google Sheets, TelegramFree

So the cash floor for one post a day is roughly Blotato $29 plus APITemplate about $29 to $35 plus a server plus OpenAI usage: around $60 to $70 a month before hosting and AI, by our arithmetic from the published prices. If you already pay for a VPS and Blotato for other projects, the marginal cost is much lower, which is the honest case for this route.

SlideBase Starter is $29 a month for 200 credits. Credits are spent per slide, so a 6-slide post is about 6 credits and 30 daily posts is about 180. That covers writing, design, caption, hashtags and posting to TikTok and Instagram. Pro is $49 and Ultra $99 if you need more; full details on the plans page.

The cost nobody puts in the spreadsheet: upkeep

The monthly bill is the easy part. These are the things that break a DIY carousel pipeline in practice, based on how these stacks are put together:

  • Credentials expire. Google OAuth tokens, social account connections and API keys all need re-authorising at some point, and a failed node often fails quietly.
  • Community nodes change. Blotato’s own help page now recommends its official n8n nodes over the legacy JSON template, which means older Gumroad workflows drift out of date.
  • Template slides go stale. One APITemplate design means every post looks the same. Changing it means redesigning in another tool and updating node IDs.
  • The copy is generic. The agent writes from whatever you send in Telegram. It does not know your App Store listing unless you build that step too.
  • No sound. TikTok’s API cannot add music to a photo post. Without a draft step you publish silent slideshows; with one, you need a manual check anyway.

None of this is a reason not to build it. It is a reason to count your hours honestly. If one evening a month goes to fixing the pipeline, that is part of the price.

When the n8n route wins

  • You already run n8n. Adding one more workflow to an instance you maintain anyway is cheap.
  • You post to many networks. Blotato Starter covers 20 social accounts across platforms; SlideBase only does TikTok and Instagram.
  • You want a fixed visual system. If every post should look exactly the same, a single rendering template is a feature.
  • You need custom triggers. Post when a new app version ships, when a review lands, when a Notion row changes. n8n can do anything with a webhook; SlideBase cannot.
  • High volume across many accounts. With your own templates and an execution-based plan, the marginal post is cheap.

When SlideBase wins

  • You want to ship app updates, not workflows. No server, no credentials page, no nodes.
  • The copy needs to be about your app. The listing is read each time, so hooks speak to your users and the last slide names your app with real screenshots.
  • You want to edit by hand sometimes. Change a word, swap a photo, rewrite the caption, then post.
  • You want sound without a robot. Draft mode sends the slideshow to your TikTok inbox for a ten-second sound pick. See the TikTok slideshow scheduler for how it works.

A middle path

You do not have to choose one forever. Some developers generate posts in SlideBase, download the ZIP and feed it into an existing n8n or Blotato flow for networks we do not cover. Others start with SlideBase to find which angles get views, then build a custom pipeline once they know exactly what to automate. Building the robot before you know what it should make is the most common way these projects stall.

If you are comparing other automation routes, SlideBase vs Postiz covers the agent-plus-scheduler version, and the best TikTok slideshow makers list covers hosted tools. For what to actually post once the pipeline runs, see TikTok content ideas for apps and getting app downloads without ads.

FAQ

Can n8n post TikTok carousels?

Yes, through a posting service such as Blotato or another TikTok-connected API. n8n orchestrates the steps; a separate service renders the slides and another publishes them. Templates like n8n #14064 do exactly this for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

Does the n8n Blotato template work on n8n Cloud?

Template #14064 says it relies on the Blotato community node, which only runs on self-hosted n8n. Blotato’s help pages point to official nodes as the newer option, so check the current template notes before choosing Cloud or self-hosting.

How much does a DIY TikTok carousel automation cost?

From the published prices in November 2026: Blotato Starter $29/mo, APITemplate.io Starter about $29 to $35/mo once you pass 50 renders, plus OpenAI usage and a server for self-hosted n8n. Roughly $60 to $70 a month before hosting and AI, by our calculation.

Is there TikTok slideshow automation without n8n?

Yes. Hosted tools generate and schedule slideshows without any workflow building. SlideBase does it from your App Store, Google Play or website link and posts to TikTok and Instagram through their official APIs.

Can I export slides from SlideBase into my own workflow?

Yes. Every post downloads as JPEG slides or a ZIP, so you can push them into n8n, Blotato or any scheduler you already use.

Your app's first post is three minutes away.

Paste your App Store link. SlideBase reads the listing, writes the hook and lays out the slides. You decide whether it goes live.
